Balance in the Chaos

Getting Balance by Overcoming Chaos

Today I determine to do . . .

The words that follow this proclamation matter little. I have discovered that a big plan, small plan or in between plan all get muddled up by my current circumstances. I have some control over what is what, but not enough to push through the noise and stay on track.

Finding Solutions to Problems

Eating Meals – I LOVE to eat all of our meals as a family. We sit around the table sharing stories and thoughts. Bible study has been one of the highlights of our mornings.

BUT, in our current state (having been temporarily displaced by the April 27th tornadoes) the table is not big enough for the whole family. It seems that everyone eats when they want, what they want and that my youngest is existing off a diet of bologna, corndogs and Crunch Bars.

SO, I will make a menu for the meals this week – with their input. The shopping trip will include all of the groceries necessary to meet those needs. Doubling the dishes will mean some in the freezer quick meals for down the road.

School – We jumped into home school when our oldest son was still just a couple of years old. It has provided opportunities to travel, attend events and see sights that we would have otherwise missed.

BUT, life has a way of making doing the ordinary almost impossible. Tight quarters (and a blaring television that is entertaining grandpa) make focus a feat too much for mortal man.

SO, we do what we can do when we can do it and hope for the best down the road. Home schooling allows us to shift a study focus, do school in odd places or at odd moments, or to double up on work to catch up on materials. It will get done when we buckle down and work as a family.

Family – doing things for family (and friends) takes an important place in our schedule. We want to be a help and a blessing as often as possible.

BUT, everyone needs something all at the same time. There are not enough hours in the day to make it all happen.

SO, we are learning to balance a want and a need. Sometimes it even requires ranking the needs and dealing with the most critical. We are working with friends and family to balance the issues and make it work.

Life seems determined to throw a swirling mass of mess in my direction. I can choose to allow the chaos to rule or I can choose to find a way to make the chaos work for me instead of against me.
