Getting Blog Traffic
It seems that for every one step I take forward, I’m sliding back about five. My origional website – www.kathrynlang.com – was starting to build up some regular traffic. The problem was it was not very focused and so it covered budgets, freelance writing, blogging, family, religion, and more. I decided to narrow the topic for the website down to just freelance writing.
After a few more months I got the bright idea to revamp my blog entirely. I shifted my writing tips and hints to this site, made my name sake a focus on my business avenues, created a complete new blog for my finance tips and one for my family focused posts as well.
My goal for February was to build traffic on these different sites. I’ve been trying to post regularly – although not every day. Quality content has been the target instead of quantity.
Today I started reading an article at Problogger.net about smart article marketing and it hurt my feelings. This guy is getting more hits in one month on his old websites than I got all last year on my active website.
I don’t want to say that it is wrong, but it is wrong ;).
Ultimately, I know it all comes back to doing what I know to do and trusting that the rest will come to pass. It just doesn’t make it any easier to write the articles, post the articles on my freelance site and other sites, rewrite the articles for publishing on the ezine sites and then still seeing only one or two unique visitors each day.
I need a fairy godmother – or fairy internet mentor – that can tell me those few extra tips that take me from a great site to a great site that people actually visit.
For those of you that are out there struggling to build your blog traffic, I can only say to never give up – never, never, never give up. The only way to be sure of failure is to never try.

I’m of the Tortoise and The Hare school of thought – slow and steady wins the race. Blogging reliability – 3 times a week, quality content, responding to comments and building relationships are all keys. While my traffic is still light, those who visit are faithful. Many are Followers.
I noticed being on Facebook has increased views of my Profile page, as well as doing author interviews. I’m thinking about increasing my posting to 5 days a week. This way, when people are on the Net, they will find new content Monday-Friday. I’m still mulling that one over because of the extra work involved.
I’m with you. Perseverance is essential to success.

I found your site through Susan Reihart’s blog entry. I, too, would like to increase traffic to my blog. I’ll look through your entries and see if I can figure something out. I also am a tortoise type person. Too many outside influences seem to enter into my life.
I think I have decided that good, quality posts done on a consistent basis combined with building online relationships with readers and bloggers is the best way to build a sound blog.
