Becoming the Perfect Proverbs 31 Woman

Perfection of the Proverbs 31 Woman

I am the Proverbs 31 Woman – only never all at once. Combining all of the activities that she accomplished into one 24-hour period is not something I have yet mastered. There are days when I rise before sunrise, make lunch for my husband to take with him if necessary, get breakfast started (and possibly a lunch for the family as well) and maybe even get in a couple of chores all before the sun makes it over the mountain. There are some days when I roll out of bed long after the sun has announced itself and toss cold pop tarts and cereal on the table for our first meal of the day.

Being perfect is not as easy as she makes it look. Every morning I chant the mantra of the Proverbs 31 woman (you know, the list of all the wondrous things she does in Proverbs 31) with the hopes of somehow the words will stimulate me to perfection. Every afternoon, I look around and see that I have managed to fall short (and that is NOT an opening for a height joke).

I do continue to get up each morning in pursuit of the Proverbs 31 perfection. I know how my priorities need to go if I am going to reach that pinnacle. I also know that a close review of my investments – particularly my TIME investments – would prove that my priorities are not taking precedence.

No wonder I am not able to get all that she does completed in my own day. I have too many modern conveniences to distract me from my priorities. I get caught up in the social media feeds or lost in the blogosphere. I sit down for a little entertainment only to look around and realize that Netflix has been feeding me episodes for the whole day. The Proverbs 31 woman was not able to call her husband and say, β€œpick something up – I have had a rough day.” She just did what needed to be done and was done with it.

What a concept. Just do it and it will be done. Just get up and get going and you will be further along to getting there. Just do one more thing and that will be one less thing that needs to be done.

I can talk about the Proverbs 31 woman. I can chant her mantra. Until I make the effort to follow through on the priorities, it will all just be words. Actions are required to make the difference.

Do you think it is possible to reach the perfection of the Proverbs 31 woman?
