Get the Help You Need to Get Unstuck
You need help to get unstuck. Sometimes the help reminds you of where you are. Sometimes the help comes in the form of ideas for how you can make the change. Sometimes the help comes in a hug to give you the courage to keep going.
The trick is finding the people that are willing to invest in helping you get unstuck and then making the choice to follow through.

Help to Get Unstuck
“You told me that last year.”
A few years back, I joined a mastermind group to propel me into my next step. I keep in touch with a couple of the members and we make the effort to meet up every few months – to check-in, to encourage, and to hold each other accountable.
After she made her observation, I took the time to go back through my notes. She was right. I had gone full circle around what I knew I needed to be doing to what I thought I could do to build an income to what I had to do to make some money NOW to what I knew I needed to be doing.
It’s never good to discover you’ve been going in circles – no matter how amazing the scenery might be during the journey. After all, if you know where you want to be then why aren’t you getting there?
During our next meeting, I got honest – because the only way out of where you are now is to be honest. I explained that the choices I made had landed me between a brick wall and a boulder (forget the rock, this is bigger). Nothing seemed to be moving, including me.
Through my honesty, I started seeing how certain concerns would render me paralyzed. I could know I needed to move, but I wouldn’t move because I was too busy thinking about how I needed to move.
Through my honesty, they began to help me see how it wasn’t as bad as I had built it up to be. And they also helped me recognize ways I could get around the “not doing” dilemma I had trapped myself in.
We had created a safe space to share, to strip back the masks, and to get real about the journey. Because I looked to the wise counsel of others and because I was willing to learn and adjust accordingly and because I felt safe enough to be real, I began to make the changes that are getting me unstuck.
It’s not always easy. You don’t want to admit that you got you to where you are. You don’t want to take the steps because then you have to admit the truth. You don’t want to because . . .
Let’s be honest, the reason that lies after the “because” is really just that – a lie. Or at the very least it is a prop to keep you from moving on.
You have it in you to live bold and purposeful and amazing. You are designed to live in purpose and on purpose. You are crafted to fly into amazing possibilities.
The only thing holding you back is you. It’s a simple truth, but it is the truth.
When you get stuck, and when you are spending all of your time running but getting nowhere, find others you can trust to talk it through with. With their help, you can see you are stuck, determine what you need to help to get unstuck, and even ask for assistance to get things moving in the right direction.
The Help to Get Unstuck
You aren’t supposed to do this alone, so quit trying. Find people you can trust to help you through the process to get unstuck. Invest in relationships that will encourage you to take the actions you need to make it happen.
- Stop. The moment you realize you are stuck or even think you are stuck. Stop. The more you struggle in your stuck without taking intentional actions to get unstuck, the more stuck you become.
- Evaluate. Look around at your situation. Determine where you are and how bad it is. Take an inventory of what you have that can help to get unstuck – even just a little bit.
- Petition. Ask someone to help. Be specific – and you can only be specific in your request if you know what you need (see step 1. And 2. above).
You don’t get stuck overnight – even if it seems that way. One little choice at a time leads to the place of stuck. It seems instant because you notice it in an instant.
The way out of stuck is to be invested in the little bits going in the other direction – and sometimes you need that extra push to get things back to right.
What do you do when you discover that you are stuck?
Challenge for Intentional Actions
Help to Get Unstuck
Stop.
Evaluate.
Petition.
You get stuck a little bit at a time. You get unstuck a little bit at a time. But you have to first stop the struggle, determine what you can (and should do), and reach out for the help you need to get unstuck.
Quote of the Day
“Collaboration clears the way for growing relationships and building opportunities.” – Kathryn Lang
How are you investing in others? I challenge you to make a point to invest in helping one person today AND to make a point to ask for specific help or an action (and not necessarily from the same person).
