Meat Eaters and Milk Drinkers

Growing up is tough. I know very few people who are willing to go back and do it all again. The truth is that we ARE going through it all again and there is no way to avoid it. Although the physical body may be full grown, the spiritual body may just be getting started.

Are you a meat eater or a milk drinker?

We have three children and each one began eating solid foods on a different schedule. The oldest is now twelve and if he hadn’t chosen to eat solid foods by now then we would definitely have forced the issue. Either way, it is the additional protein, vitamins and nutrients that he has received (along with a dose of independence from feeding himself and even making his own meals) that has helped him to grow to the place where he is today.

There are three boys in this house, and as they continue to grow the meal that I made two years ago and then utilized as left-overs barely can feed their growing bodies. They need more fuel to help their bodies grow to the place that they need to be.

Paul warns that it is time for the church to quit drinking milk and to start eating meat instead. He is telling us to get to the heart of the purpose. Going to church just once a week will not provide enough fuel to make your spiritual body grow. It may be enough to get you going, but eventually you will need to add to or supplement your feeding.

Many people do this with more church – and fellowship, mentoring and accountability are important. Eventually there has to be independence as well. YOU have to become responsible for your meals. This will require opening the bible and reading, digging into the scripture and regularly talking to God about what you are reading and learning.

Where are you in your walk today? Meat eater or milk drinker – we can all benefit from choosing to spend daily time with God and in His Word.

  • Well, interesting you should ask. We’ve been reading Torah (first five books of the Bible) and other portions of Scripture. God is opening up to us things we’ve never seen before. Amazing how what you’ve been taught all your life in church doesn’t actually match what the Word is saying. And we’d never have realized it if we continued to listen to only what was being spoon fed to us.

    God bless!

  • Mara – it’s really simple when you break it down to the basic. Everything comes back to a PERSONAL relationship with Christ. No one can feed that to you.
