Perfection of Proverbs 31
The Proverbs 31 woman was not perfect. She looks perfect if you read her story, but the story was written by an optimist and encourager. Proverbs 31 is about all the things that we can do when we just start doing. If focuses on the good, the positive and the uplifting, and not the things that the Proverbs 31 woman messed up.
I will confess something here and now, but you can never tell my kids. I am not perfect β at least not the fleshly me. The spirit inside me is perfect through the blood of Christ, but the flesh often dominates the scene. The Proverbs 31 woman is my goal. Each day I get up planning to cover my fleshly imperfections through the guidelines of Proverbs 31.
Guidelines of Proverbs 31
-
1. Get up early. There is just no way around it. Jesus often got up before sunrise to go off and be alone. The Proverbs 31 woman was up before sunrise. I am not a morning person by genetics, but I am growing to be a morning person by spirit. I can promise that the morning time is quitter than any other time of the day.
2. Serve others. Society tells me that I am to focus on my needs but Proverbs 31 reminds me of the importance of serving others. The Proverbs 31 woman served those that worked for her, those that had nothing and even her family.
3. Be a good steward. It should not be about getting more. The Proverbs 31 woman used what she had. She used her skills to buy good, fertile land to grow grapes, to make garments for her family and to sell, and to take care of those around her. I need to do better about using ALL (time, talents and possessions) that I have to do all that I know to do.
4. Spend time with the family. The family of the Proverbs 31 woman proclaimed how great and wonderful she was to everyone who would listen. I have noticed that when I spend time with my own family, they are much quicker to praise me. It is time to turn off the computer, the television or just put down the book and make my family a priority every day!
There is so much I need to glean from the Proverbs. Reaching for the place where others can see the Proverbs 31 life in my own life is important to me. My flesh may never reach perfection. But if I can ever get to the point where my spirit dominates my flesh then I am on the verge of that perfection that is revealed in Proverbs 31.
