The Proverbs 31 Life One Step at a Time
The Proverbs 31 woman had it all together. She took care of herself, her family, her neighbors and just about everyone else that came along. There are days that I want to be like the Proverbs 31 woman and there are days I wish I had never discovered that chapter.
I had a revelation. The Proverbs 31 woman was not perfect. My son was sharing with some guys about his mother gets up before sunrise and prays and studies. It is not important that I actually get up every day before sunrise. What is important is that my son can see my heart. The Proverbs 31 woman had a heart devoted to and focused on God and THAT is what made the difference.
The Proverbs 31 woman is a real person in my mind β maybe she was even the mother of the writer. It makes the story even more special if it turns out to be Bathsheba because it is one more reminder to me that my past does not dictate my future.
I can be the Proverbs 31 woman. My actions do not determine if I reach my goal. Even my results do not determine if I am the Proverbs 31 woman. All that matters is that I have a heart devoted to and focused on God.
Steps to Fulfilling the Proverbs 31 Walk
-
1. Spend time in prayer. It is great when I can get up before sunrise and spend quiet time with God but TIME with God is what is most important.
2. Spend time in the word. Going to church does not mean I get the word. Even in church services where scripture is read does not guarantee that I will experience the scripture for myself. I need to spend some time reading the scripture for myself a few minutes every day. Just reading a few verses will begin to open the world of the Proverbs 31 woman to me.
3. Spend time in service. The Proverbs 31 woman was not spending her time at the spa or the gym. She got her exercise by reaching out and reaching up. There is not doubt in my mind that I will be more like the Proverbs 31 woman if I spend more time on others than I do focused on self.
Three little steps can lead me to the life of the Proverbs 31 woman. What are you willing do to create a life like the Proverbs 31 woman that is recognized by those around her as one devoted to God?
