The Word First

The Word used to be the first thing that touched my eyes – short of stumbling around to get dressed and to get coffee. I touched no electronics or made any contact with others. I tried not to even think about my to-do list.

The Word came first.

I fell out of the habit the last few weeks – in part because it got cold and the cold is a great excuse not to get out of bed. Most of the reason I fell out of the habit was my stubborn nature. Things weren’t going the way I wanted and it had to be God’s fault because there was no way it could be mine.

You can imagine how well that has worked out for me.

Yesterday morning was the first morning in too long that I put the word first. The day wasn’t perfect, but I felt better about facing what I faced.

My goal for the upcoming year (although I’m starting NOW instead of waiting for Jan 1st) is to read through the whole bible six times. I have the readings broken down so that it can be done in small amounts several times a day. I did it twice this year using the technique.

Breakdown the Readings of the Word

I read through the Psalms, the Proverbs, the Gospels in one section (I’ll go through this every month).

I read through the New Testatment, Joel, and Hosea in one section – broken down by Acts, Letters of Paul, and Epistles/Revelations (I’ll go through this every month as well).

I read through the rest of the Old Testatment in the final section – broken down by the Pentateuch, History, Poetry, and Prophet (this will take me two months each time through).

The Word first – and then the rest will fall into place.

Be blessed,
