What Can Defeat God

Nothing can defeat God. He is an unstoppable God. Everything on the earth began with Him, and He can create more if necessary.

And yet, I doubt. Or maybe it would be more accurate to say I struggle in my belief.

There is nothing that can defeat God.
Repeat that until you believe it.

There is nothing that can defeat God.
Repeat that until you believe it.

What Do You Believe?

We sat in class, talking about doubt and struggles. I don’t like talking about doubt and struggles. My thought process always told me that if I doubted, I didn’t believe. If I struggled, I wasn’t standing firmly in that belief.

Finally, out of frustration, I asked. “If I know that God is always faithful and I know His promises are always fulfilled, then how can I doubt?”

From across the room, a wonderful lady told me, “You can struggle and still believe.”

Her comment released the connection of those two words. Suddenly, I could see a path to admit I was struggling without giving in to the doubt.

In Mark 9, Jesus encounters a man struggling because his son needs healing, and the disciples couldn’t do it. Jesus tells him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him that believes.” (from Mark 9:23).

The man follows up with, “Lord, I believe. Help my unbelief.”

How can he believe AND need help with his unbelief?

Turns out, when he said believe, he meant that he had confidence in Jesus and gave credit to the ability that Jesus could heal. When he said he needed help with his unbelief, he meant he needed help dealing with his weakness.

It’s understandable that the man was struggling – after all, the disciples had just failed in their attempts to heal his son.

But Jesus said.

What has Jesus said to you?

Knowing What Can Defeat God

You have to come to a place where you know that nothing can defeat God, but it has to settle down into your knower. It’s said that the longest distance is the distance between the head and the heart.

I know that the Lord is my strength. (from Exodus 15:2)

I know that the one that trusts in the Lord will be blessed. (from Jeremiah 17: 5- 8)

I know that God gave all that was needed to His people. (Psalm 105).

God is the same

And I know that God is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. What He did for His children before, He will do for His children again.

I need to move that knowledge from my head down into my heart so it can take root in my very being.

Once I know it in my knower then I can lean harder into my belief, and I can openly seek support when I struggle to stay in the belief despite the waves crashing over me.

What will you do today to settle it into your knower?
