Quote of the day for Tuesday, March 14, 2017
The mind is not a vessel to be filled but a fire to be ignited” – Plutarch
My father-in-law always enjoyed the opportunity to give gifts to his only grandchildren. Too often, the gifts he gave were not the ones the needed (or mom wanted). I tried to explain to him my reasons, but they fell on deaf ears.
One day I pointed out an interesting item in a sales paper. It was still months from any holiday or birthday, but it was something I knew the boys would love (and so would mom).
Every few days, I would bring up that same item or a similar item again. By the time the next holiday came around, the first thing my father-in-law went out to purchase was the item I had been talking about.
It was his idea, I just fueled the thought. I found a way to ignite the imagination that led to his thoughts.
When I take the time to invest in possibilities for my life and for the life of those around me, I plant the seed that will grow up into the purposeful life they are designed to fulfill. I ignite the flames of imagination.
How are you igniting the flames of imagination in those around you?
