Proverbs Devotion – December 10 2013
“In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.” (KJV) Proverbs 10:19
My dad teases that I did not speak a word until I was two but then I did not shut up once I started. I do enjoy words. Over the years, I have learned that words can end up doing more harm than good – to me or to those around me.
I still fall into the trap of words. I want to entertain others. I get caught up in the moment. When I walk away from the situation, I kick myself for having said too much.
Hold on to words and release them only when necessary. Too many words will lead to trouble. Words used at the right moment will reveal wisdom. It is a fine line to walk, but erring on the side of less words is always the better choice.
