Fight Fear: 5 Ways to Get Unstuck & Take Control
It takes hope and courage to fight fear.
And you have to fight . . . for your right . . .
Because fear tries everything in its bag of tricks to take control – and run you into a ditch.
Fear is a sneaky little liar.
It doesn’t knock on the door, announce itself, and politely ask permission to ruin your plans.
Nope. It slides in through the cracks—whispering doubts, stirring up what-ifs, and making you suddenly too busy (or too tired) to do the very thing you were fired up about yesterday.
One minute, you’re confidently mapping out your next big step.
The next? You’re standing in the kitchen, staring at a pile of dishes, convinced you need to deep-clean your baseboards before you can possibly tackle your dream.
I know the truth.
I grew up in a household where my dad regularly preached that fear is a liar—it is a delusion masquerading as reality.
False
Evidence
Appearing
Real.

But even having that firm foundation of truth, fear still slithered its way in.
I knew what I was supposed to do – or I HAD KNOWN. Fear blocked my truth and I stopped moving because I didn’t know what I needed to do anymore.
I was blocked.
And when fear takes hold?
🔹 It clouds your focus.
🔹 It drains your motivation.
🔹 It fuels emotions that shouldn’t be in the driver’s seat.
🔹 It distracts you from the truth.
🔹 And it shouts way louder than hope.
I know fear is a liar.
But that doesn’t make it feel any less real.
Has fear ever left you blocked? Stuck? Overthinking and underdoing?
My Break Free
We were letting go – of expectations, of stuff, of the past – and stepping into our new possibilities.
I decided to let go of my BIG DREAMS. “Maybe it’s time to start new.”
I talked with a friend. And then we talked again.
And again.
And with each talk, we dug deeper into my stuck until the light broke through and pointed out fear.
When we exposed fear, my truth roared back into my heart.
All of a sudden, my BIG DREAM goals were possible again.
Instead of starting over, I restarted taking action in my unique purpose and design.
I had to fight fear before I was free to go.
Without my friend, I might have stayed in fear and left fear in charge.
How Fear Sneaks In & Keeps You Stuck
Fear is not a dramatic villain with a cape and a sinister laugh. Okay, in my head, it is.
At least when I am prepared and recognize fear in all of its non-glory.
Instead, it’s subtle. It’s sneaky. It masquerades as logic.
It whispers:
“Take your time, there’s no hurry.”
“You need more – education, money, time, space . . .”
“Are you really ready for this?”
Then there you are. Standing still behind a wall that fear built.
Until one day, you realize:
🔹 You haven’t started that thing you were excited about.
🔹 You’ve convinced yourself you don’t have enough (time, experience, talent—pick your poison).
🔹 You’ve been so busy planning that you haven’t actually done anything.
And fear?
Fear is sitting in the corner, sipping coffee, acting like it’s helping.
That’s MY coffee, thank you very much!
It’s time to call fear out and fight back.
How to Fight Fear
1. Fear Clouds Your Focus
Ever notice how your best ideas come at the worst possible times?
- You’re finally ready to write your book? Oh wait—shouldn’t you start a podcast instead?
- You’ve mapped out your new business? Hold on—maybe you need another certification first.
- You’re about to take action? WAIT. What if it’s not perfect?
Welcome to the Fear Cloud.
One minute, you know exactly what you need to do.
The next, you’re questioning everything or looking back realizing you never did any of it.
And fear loves that.
Fight Fear:
Clear the clouds. Remember your truth. What is it that fired you up before you were stopped by fear?
Sometimes all you need is the ability to remember to break the hold of fear.
2. Fear Syphons Your Motivation
At first, you’re all in.
You’re pumped. You’re ready. You’re making progress.
And then suddenly… you’re not.
- You had big plans… but now you “don’t feel ready.”
- You were excited… but now you’re “too tired.”
- You had momentum… but now you “need more research.”
ALERT: That’s fear draining your motivation one little drop at a time.
And before you know it, you’re binge-watching reruns of a show you don’t even like, telling yourself you’ll totally get back to your project tomorrow.
Tomorrow is ALWAYS a day away.
Fight Fear:
Just a little bit. No motivation to work out? Do five jumping jacks. No energy to write? Write one sentence. The key is to do just a little bit.
Fear doesn’t want you to know the truth. You’re not unmotivated. You’re just letting fear wear you down.
3. Fear Fuels Emotions
🚫 Emotions are terrible decision-makers. 🚫
And fear? Fear loves to help them hijack the drive.
- It whispers worst-case scenarios until they feel inevitable.
- It stirs up anxiety, doubt, and second-guessing.
- It makes you believe nervousness means “Don’t do it.”
I once backed out of a speaking event because I felt uneasy.
Was it a gut feeling? A sign? A warning?
Nope.
It was just fear messing with me.
Fight Fear:
Avoid the feels. Is this a real problem, or just fear being loud?
4. Fear Distracts from the Truth
Fear isn’t just loud—it’s devious.
It doesn’t use obvious lies. It doesn’t even use whole lies. It takes pieces of truth and twists them. It uses half-truths and almost-believable excuses or reasoning to keep you from moving forward or sometimes from moving at all.
- “You need more experience before you start.”
- “You should wait for the perfect time.”
- “Maybe this isn’t for you after all.”
- “Ooooh – try something new.” (because shiny object syndrome can be fear in disguise).
Sounds reasonable, right?
Except…
🔹 You learn by doing.
🔹 There is no perfect time.
🔹 You don’t have to feel ready to be ready.
🔹 And new doesn’t make it any more right for you.
Fight Fear:
Phone a friend. Fear hates when you ask someone else for the truth.

5. Fear Shouts Louder Than Hope
Fear is LOUD.
Hope is a whisper.
And if you’re not intentional about what you’re bringing in, fear will drown out the truth. If you are going to fight fear, you have to feed hope.
- Fear says: “You’re not good enough.”
- Hope says: “God has already equipped you.”
- Fear says: “You might fail.”
- Hope says: “You don’t have to be perfect—just obedient.”
Fear will always try to be the dominant voice in your life.
But you get to determine where you invest.

“Fearless” is a non-existent state. Of course you feel the fear. You use your courage to feel the fear and do it anyway. There is no role for courage EXCEPT in the face of fear. Go for it. You will win or learn. Often you will do both!
