He Wants Me: The Truth of Purpose Living
They painted the perfect picture of settled calm.
He pushed the baby stroller.
She picked blooms from the plants.
And I felt the nudge to splash cold water on them.
Not actual water. That would be rude. But maybe my WORD interruption was just as rude.
Do you ever share random knowledge with people who don’t ask?
I do.
ALL
THE
TIME
(and yes, my dear husband, that includes you).
I rolled down my window and spoke with authority.
A daylily bloom only blooms for a day,
then it fades and dies.
If you want to use daylilies in an arrangement, you have to get a stem with multiple buds.
They never stopped smiling, just let me finish my word bath.
AND
God showed up.
Powerful.
Right to my heart.
Suddenly.
I was humbled.
On the drive home, I had been meditating about how the Word has the answer to all of my questions. I had been seriously contemplating how I want to share stories to inspire and ignite the hearts of others to live boldly in their YOUnique God design. I had just committed to looking for God at work and joining Him with eager obedience instead of trying to do it myself.
When I stopped to share my knowledge about the daylily, all of that was forgotten.
SIDE NOTE: (because I need to share random knowledge you didn’t ask for … and that irony is not lost on me) the daylily as a species is diverse and colorful, and some even suggest it is the very lily of the valley mentioned in Scripture. Told you it was random.

The young man continued to smile while the young woman spoke. “Do you want to know what we do with these blooms? We choose them to give back to God. We thank Him for the day and give these to Him as a thanksgiving.”
In a morning walk, they go out to take from God’s bounty and present it back to him with thanksgiving and praise.
Here I was, thinking I was sharing important information with her, when her simple act of worship shifted my entire day.
How am I taking from God’s bounty … because it is ALL God’s … and then presenting it back to Him with thanksgiving and praise?
Lost in ALL ABOUT ME
Back to my meditation time. I had been thinking about how I can get more done than I’m doing if I stay on task and keep my focus.
Just the facts:
- I have all the time I need
- I have the creativity to make it work
- God doesn’t ask ME to do HIS purpose
He just wants me to give back to Him from HIS abundance by joining Him where He shows me He is at work.
That’s all.
Simple.
Dare I say easy?
But I have to go complicating up the thanksgiving and praise by piling on a bunch of facts that don’t even matter to the moment.
Have you ever found creative ways to complicate the moment?
My Husband Wants Me With Him
My husband doesn’t like to go ANYWHERE without me.
I’ve joked that I am his emotional support animal.
He says it’s not a joke.
He doesn’t need me to go with him when he goes to the store. He’s a grown man. He knows how to make a purchase. He doesn’t even call me that many times anymore when he does the grocery shopping by himself.
But he WANTS me to go with him. He likes me.

(We heard a song the other day by Austin Roberts from 1972, “Something’s Wrong With Me” and I told him that should be our anthem).
He likes us to do stuff together. It’s one of the reasons he feels called for us to work in Peculiar Productions together and to share the Abundant Life Program together. He wants us to be together.
A LITTLE NUDGE: If you want to help him in his dream, jump over to the Abundant Life Program and connect. Get started with your workbook or join as a partner.
Not because he has to have me with him, but because he WANTS to have me with him.
He Wants Me With Him
And that is how God is.
God doesn’t need me to do His purpose.
God doesn’t need me to worship and praise him.
God doesn’t need me for relationship.
God WANTS me.
God wants YOU!
So much so that He sent His Son to die and pay the price to heal the rift between Him and us.
God invites us to join Him where He is at work, and that is how HE sees our purpose. A place alongside Him as He completes what He started.
Now that you know that it can be simple and easy, how will you take from His abundance and give back in thanksgiving and praise?

P.S. How can I encourage you in your purpose of joining God in your YOUnique purpose?
