Hold Tight to Your Vision
Hold tight to your vision. Your vision ignites your possibility thinking and fuels your momentum. It keeps you going and doing and daring! Once you start losing your vision, you begin the process of dying.
#QuoteoftheDay
The Sun IS Shining
The day was dark. Clouds dominated the sky and filled the air with rain. The whole world felt like it was crying, and it dampened my normally sunshiny disposition.
No amount of caffeine could break through the grey barrier.
The more I dwelt on it, the worse things became. I found fault in the spaces around me, what was available to eat, and DEFINITELY in my writing.
The more I dwelt on the greyness of it all, the darker things became.
But then a small break in the clouds allowed for a single beam of sunshine to pour through, and I remembered that no matter how the world makes it look, the sun is shining.
We donβt have to wait for a literal break in the clouds to find our beam of sunshine.
Look for the Light
It doesnβt take a lot of light to scatter the darkness. Even a small spark will penetrate into the deepest cavern. Itβs why tour guides in caves make sure you turn off phones, hide watches, and pick up toddlers before they cut the lights in the caves. (Toddlers donβt glow in the dark, but sometimes their shoes do).
When you are looking for the light in your grey days, you will find it β EVERY SINGLE TIME!
How to Find Your Sunlight
Getting out of the darkness requires clearing vision the world has told you is normal. It doesn’t take something major, but it does require intentional.
Read something that makes you happy.
I keep a folder of positive things people have shared about me or with me. It includes emails, thank you cards, and posts on social media. Iβve even written down a few that folks shared when we were talking. I make sure to date the encouragement and put a name to it so I can remember the moment of hope.
Visit with someone who encourages you.
Email me if you arenβt sure who else to talk with. Having people around you that inspire you, encourage you, or laugh with you (not at you unless you need to be laughed at β and we all know people that NEED to be laughed at).
Smile.
Never underestimate the power of a smile β for you and for anyone else that might encounter your smile along the way. Smile. It warms a heart.
Embrace the little bits.
It is the little bits of light that break up the darkest night. Even one match can light a way in the darkest cave. You donβt need a big break to make a big difference.
Remember.
You are not alone. It can feel that way when the depths of darkness cover you. But you are NOT alone. When you remember this truth then you will encounter the little moments you need to get a little farther in and a little farther up.
A Vision of Light
I donβt dislike the darkness. When the night is the darkest, I can see the stars. Itβs that darkness that I miss most about where we use to live. Out there, we were without light noise. When the shooting stars zipped across the sky, we had a clear view. For my heart, it was hope vision (special time spent with my sons enjoying the light beyond the darkness).
In a space that others considered dark, we could see the light that mattered and it was more than enough to do what we needed and wanted to do.
Things have changed. Back at the farm, neighbors have moved in with streetlights bright enough to be seen from space. Where we live now, there are more streetlights around as well as safety lights on other peopleβs houses. All of those neighborhood lights keep us from being able to see Godβs lights with clarity.
Thatβs how it works in the world as well. The things of the world cloud our view. They make us feel like we are in a darkness worse than it is. They distract us from the real Light.
If we can see past the worldβs light noise then we are positioned to live in (and to live out) the Light of God. When you get hold of God’s Light let it strengthen you so you can hold tight to your vision.
You can never add more dark, or more quiet. Yet you can find all you need by appreciating what you have and doing your best with what you have. I used to think that doing my best would pay me dividends and give me recognition. I now realize my purpose may well be simply to leave a legacy. So I’ll leave the best ne I can.
