One Way to Know God – 5 Not So Secret Steps
Want to know God? Invest in His Word.
It is that simple. Complicated need not apply.
It is all about the choice.
The more time we spend in His Word and with His Word, the more we come to know God.
Because the Word is God.
It’s not complicated. It doesn’t require a lot of extra tools or accessories. It’s just a matter of making the choices.
And it can be deceptively easier to choose NOT to read. And I’ve used a lot of them.
“Oops, I forgot. I’ll start tomorrow. It’s too late now.”
“I don’t understand this. I’ll wait until I know more.”
“I can’t stand the repetition of the census counting.”
I have more and I’ve used them all. Some of them earlier this week.
But the ONLY way to know God is to read His Word.
It’s not a secret. It’s not some theological degree. It’s just a book – well, 66 to be exact.

If you want to know
God’s Word
you have to
READ
God’s Word.
– Kathryn Lang

How you read the Word isn’t important. You can read straight through (like my husband) or break it down into section readings (like I do in the Focused Flexibility Planner) or you can follow a reading plan (many Bibles will have a breakdown). The key is to read the Word in a way that will allow you (and encourage you) to be consistent.
Calls to Read God’s Word
Delight in God’s Word – Psalm 1:2 find pleasure in His Law.
Store God’s Word in your heart, Psalm 119:11. Storing God’s Word in our hearts keeps us from sinning against God.
Give attention and turn your mind to God’s Word – 1 Timothy 4:13 reading, exhortation, instruction
Read God’s Word every day – Deuteronomy 17: 19 – 20 read the word every day, to learn to reverence God and to keep His Words, and you will not turn aside.
Seek God’s Word with eagerness – Acts 17:11 They received the Word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures to see it was so.
Invest In God’s Word Because God Is the Word
The only way to know someone is to invest in that person – or in this case, the Word of God (because the Word is God).
It doesn’t have to be a big production, it just needs to be consistent.
Start with a little bit – maybe one Proverb per day.
Spread it out – take several breaks and read a little before starting back.
Carry it around – write the Word on cards so you can take it with you.
When you make an investment in the Word, it will change your world and provide you with what you need to walk out your Abundant Life.
