How are you different?
The words were the first question in a series for an interview, but the answer was evading me. The rest of the answers flowed out easily, but the first question was staring at me with a smug, blank expression.
I know that I am unique in all of the world. Each one of us was created with traits and qualities that allow us to make a mark that can be made by no other person. I had just never thought of applying that concept to my writing and seeing that unique (and often peculiar) quality as ones that set me apart from other writers.
Unique Traits of THIS Writer
- 1. There is only one me – and many people that know me would say that is a good thing. I was told once that if there were two of me, we would conspire together and take over the world. I would say that I am not that bad, but I do know that I look at things from different angle.
2. My experiences differ from everyone else – even those people that may have experienced similar situations did not walk through them in my shoes. The things that I have seen and felt are unique to my own journey.
3. My voice is like no other – I write in a way that reflects my experiences, education and even interests.
The differences that stand out in my own life are the same ones that stand out in others. I am different because there is no other like me, and I am happy to accept that responsibility.
