Five Favorite Encouraging Scriptures
Psalm 37: 3 β 6
Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desire of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
All too often, I try to take control. It is my life after all. I know what I need to do to make it all happen. This gentle reminder from Psalm 37 provides comfort and also pushes me to leave it in the hands of God and to trust HIS leading and guidance for my journey.
Isaiah 26:3
Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.
The storm clouds become the scariest when I invest in focusing on them. I see the swirling or the changes and I begin to wonder what those storm clouds are hiding and preparing to hit me with. This Scripture from Isaiah reminds me that my focus will make a difference. When I keep my mind stayed on God (focused on Jesus) then I will be able to settle in my trust in Him.
1 Chronicles 16:8
Give thanks unto the Lord, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the people. Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him, talk ye of all his wondrous works. Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the Lord. Seek the Lord and his strength, seek his face continually.
The things that I talk about keep my attention and the things that have my attention begin to drive my actions. This Scripture from 1 Chronicles 16 reminds me to talk about God, to share what He has done in my life, and to praise Him for the blessings (big, small, and in between) that He is pouring over me. The more I proclaim the glories of God in my life the more those will be the driving force for my life.
John 16:33
These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulations: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
Some days the troubles of the world bombard my life. They storm my borders and threaten to overrun every aspect of who I am. These words from Jesus, shared in John 16, calm the worries and fear those troubles try to stir. Jesus tells me that He has already won β no matter how it might look β and those words comfort my heart.
Philippians 4: 6 β 7
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
The things of God confound the world β and too often they confound me as well. I look around and wonder if He might be too busy with others to notice me. I become overwhelmed and that opens the door for darkness. These words from Philippians give me direction β pray and talk to God until I find a place of thanksgiving and then bring my requests to God. It is in this place that peace overflows beyond understanding and everything else becomes still in comparison.
Sometimes a single word or phrase can make the difference in my day. I know that when I make the Word a focus of my morning and I choose the Word to refocus throughout the day then the encouraging Scriptures can keep me on the path of hope and joy.
