Jesus Is Not an Excuse for Your Feelings
Please stop.

Stop using Jesus as an excuse to justify feelings.
Stop using Bible memes to empower your actions.
Stop using Scripture as the guide for emotional responses.
JUST STOP.

Maybe it’s all the news coming out.
Maybe it’s the extra cup of coffee I had earlier.
Maybe it’s the fact that some people are shouting Jesus and then block Scripture.
Maybe it was the faith-fueled early morning meeting … that’s what I’m betting on.
Whatever the catalyst, the straw broke this morning.
So, please, JUST STOP!
Your Feelings Aren’t The Truth
It doesn’t matter how you feel about it.
It doesn’t matter what your emotions tell you.
It doesn’t even matter what your grandmother said … and that’s coming from a Bible Belt Southern Belle raised girl.
The Truth of God is the Truth … from Alpha to Omega.
And this IS the Truth.
Jesus didn’t come to earth to condemn the government.
He didn’t even come to earth to condemn corrupt clergy.
Jesus came to heal the relationship between man and God because God created man to be in relationship with HIM.
It’s a relationship … not a rule.
The RULES were put in place to keep man aligned with God and to keep man in relationship with God.
One choice was too much– Genesis 3
10 commandments were too many – man broke them as they were being made.
613 laws definitely made it impossible.
So Jesus came to make it simple … stupid simple.
Love God.
And really, we could stop there. When you are fully invested in a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ, then you don’t need guidance for anything else because He is your guidance.
One More Guiding Light
Just for kicks and giggles, let’s follow up with the call to Love others.
Through the relationship you build with God, love others.
Without the foundational relationship with God, the rest won’t work. None of it. Nadda.
It takes God to make a thing go right.
With the relationship with God, the rest works itself out.
It takes God (which is often out of sight … because it’s faith not flesh).
I’ve digressed into 80s hits, but hopefully you get the gist of the story.
More with Jesus
Jesus said, “Love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.” – from Mark 12:30
In other words, be so invested in loving God that there isn’t room for anything else.
Then Jesus says, “Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these.” In other words, use the Love that grows up in a relationship with God to love your neighbor, and deal with your neighbor, and build RELATIONSHIP with your neighbor.
Posted on our front door is this sign:
Is the time you spend with God
outweigh
the time you spend with the world.

When that investment gets out of balance – when the world gets more than God – then the only relationship that sets a foundation for your abundant life begins to crumble.
Where is your priority?
Where is your focus?
Where is your guiding light?
It’s not about feelings … or emotions … it is about being all in with God – His Word, His Truth, His Way.
What would change in your walk if the Word had more input than the world?

I am open to talking with and sharing with you about the journey to build a firm foundation. Are you?
