Thought of the Day – Just Because You CAN Doesn’t Mean You Should

First, they came for the Footloose and I turned a blind eye. It turned out to be okay because although it was technically a remake, it did have its own twist. *personal note: it would have been almost perfect if Kevin Bacon had played the dad*
Then they came for the Dawn – Red Dawn that is – and I shook my head and walked away. I finally bit the bullet and watched. It turned out to be a good movie as well. Again, it was a retelling and not an exact replica.
Whew!
But then they came for the Dirty Dancing and I thought I was being pranked. “There is no way anyone would ever try to remake Dirty Dancing.” I made the declaration to my sons without any doubts in my mind.
Nope. No how. No way. Just couldn’t be done.
Boy, was I wrong. I haven’t even seen the movie but I couldn’t survive the trailer. No way I’m going to try to make it through the movie. At least Footloose and Red Dawn remakes made the stories their own. This . . . this . . . this whatever ABC seems to be calling it . . . well, it is just WRONG.
Do me a favor. Write and produce something new. Yes, I get that there is nothing new under the sun, but make it new to us. Think of it is as pallet repurposing 101 only with storylines instead of actual pallets.
Let’s just go ahead and put this baby back in the corner.
