I am done turning away.

Most importantly, I’m done doing it MY way – cause that hasn’t worked out very well.

Let’s be real — it’s really easy to read the Exodus story and judge their stubbornness. I mean, God parted the sea, y’all. Fire tornadoes. Plagues. Free jewelry. Dry land. Epic wins. And still, they whined. But then I look in the mirror and realize — I AM the Children of Israel.

A Pattern for Retreat

I hit a wall.

I cry out to God.

I turn to God.

God shows me the way out.

I follow God.

I settle into the blessing . . . and forget God (or just retreat from the truth of His Way).

Then here comes the wall.

God Showed Up

God did all these amazing things and the Children of Israel focused on what He HADN’T done.

They started grumbling and complaining and doubting . . . and the more they did it the more it spread. By the time they got to the Promised Land, they didn’t believe God’s truth and they had forgotten all the blessings God had poured over them.

Do you ever forget God?

5 Ways to Move from Retreat to Receive

So what do we do when we’re tired of wandering in circles? When our “Why, God?!” has replaced “What now, Lord?”

1. Admit where you are
2. Invest in the Word (because that’s where God’s Way is explained)
3. Find accountability (someone to call out your WHYing and yourhining).
4. Believe the promises (more than the world)
5. Remember the blessings (and keep remembering until you can’t forget)

The more I invest in God’s Way, the more it will become the way I will go – no more backstroking to Egypt.

A Shift from Retreat to Receive

You deserve to live the abundant life.

Doubt.

Heartbreak.

Hopelessness.

Fear.

They all stand in the way of living that life.

But the more you know God’s way and the more it drives you, the sooner you’ll leave the desert and cross into the promised land.
