Forward Facing: The 3rd Truth of Hope
Hope is forward-facing. You run off the path if you are focused on what’s behind you. You swerve into oncoming traffic when you focus on what’s beside you. You have to be focused on what lies ahead to get there.
If you’re not looking forward you are tangled in the wishes about what you would change behind.

Forward Facing Hope
Learn to Let Go of the Past
If you’re not looking forward to where you are then you’re just wishing that you could change what was behind you. Hope cannot be looking backward. Learn from the past, but then let go and move on.
Untether from the Negative What-Ifs
Hope cannot be tethered to a negative. Hope is, at its core, love, and love does not dwell with negatives. They cannot coexist.
Know the Promise
You can’t hope if you don’t know what you’re hoping for. Knowing the promises sets the foundation for your hope. Without it, you are just wishing and dreaming. Know the promises until they are the very air you breathe.
Anticipate the Fulfilled Promise
Anticipate what is coming. If you are grounded in the promises, then you know, beyond a doubt, that they are coming. Not just that they are coming, though. The promises in Scripture are already done, we just haven’t encountered them yet. The promise is real. The promise is fulfilled.
Lookout for the Promise
You have to be so intent on finding every promise, seeing the promise fulfilled, and walking into the promise that you get out of your way.
Be so focused and forward facing that the negatives around us and the negatives behind us can’t hold us back.
