How to Create Mountain Moving Moments
Mountain moving moments do not have to be hard or painful. I just have to come to the place where I understand how the mountains move.
A friend of mine once told me that you canβt change things from the outside. You have to get into the organization, to be on the inside, in order to make changes happen.
But the truth is that I will never make changes happen in an organization.
All I can do is change myself.
#QuoteoftheDay
I can change my inside, and maybe my changing will cause an affect on the insides of others, and maybe then the accumulated changes will cause a change in the bigger picture.
But I donβt make the change in them.
I can only make the change in me.
Not All About Me
βItβs not all about you.β
Iβd reached out to a friend after a difficult time and my βfriendβ responded with those words. In that moment, I truly questioned whether he was actually a friend.
I took some time to mull over his statement for several hours. Okay, I ranted about it for the first hour and then I mulled over its truth for a little while longer. It still hurt, because I really did feel like it was about me. It was my hurt. It was my struggle. It was my difficult time.
He meant that sometimes things happen for things outside of me, but what I heard in my pain was that my pain didnβt matter.
Because he was a friend and I knew he cared about me, I needed to dig in deeper to the idea he was pushing. Too often I get tangled in the circumstances of others because I am focused on how it might affect me, or maybe how it is affecting me, but what Iβm not considering is how Iβm giving it power over me.
When I give it power, then I am losing purpose.
When I step away from it then I take the power back. I have to quit trying to change it, or change them, or fix it, or fix them, and do what I can do with me where I am.
Yes And No
All of it is about me because I am the only one I can fix. And if Iβm honest, I canβt even fix me. I can lean into God and be open to His molding and sculpting.
At the same time, none of it is about me. My unique design and purpose isnβt even about me. Iβm here to love God and to love others through His love in me.
When I look at things through those glasses β where one lens is Godβs love with and for me and the other lens is Godβs love through me and for others β itβs easier to grasp the understanding of how it is and it isnβt all about me. It takes the pressure and responsibility off a lot of things β all things really.
By seeing things differently, and listening to the not as hateful as I first though words from my friend, the tough time became a little easier. I was able to let it go.
Instead of trying to move the mountain, I simply accepted that I wasnβt supposed to. God said to join Him in His work and He would move the mountains.
Do you have a mountain that needs moving?
Are you trying to move it?
When I try to make it all about me and what I will/am/should do then I take all of the weight of the stress that comes with that burden. When I give it to God and focus on being about His business of Love, then stress canβt stick.
Making Mountain Moving Moments
Take it to God
Take the mountain to God by investing at least 10% of the day talking with Him and sharing with Him β about the mountain or the stuff you have piled up that made the mountain. He is the only way you can get fixed.
Grow in God
Make His word a priority. Read the Word of God as much vigor as you scroll your phone, read your novels, or watch your sports. The Word of God is the only thing that can grow me in God. Growing in God is the only way to face the mountains and see them move.
Be Open to God
A conversation is a two-way discussion. It is sharing words and discussions and ideas β both ways. If I am going to encounter God in His Word then I need to stop digging through it looking for the answers I want and start reading the Word as a letter from God to Me and see what He wants me to hear β because it is a letter to me.
Love Through God
Everything worth doing and being has roots in relationships. The way to grow those relationships is to love others. But if youβve spent any time with people, you know it can be tough to love them as a whole. So quit trying to do it your way and lean all into God.
Itβs not complicated, weβve just worked hard to make it that way. If you want mountains to move, stop trying to move mountains. Grow in God and grow to God and trust Him to move the mountains for you.
Have you gotten exhausted trying to move mountains?
