Punch the Bully Voices in the Nose with 5 Simple Tips
Bully voices are determined to distract you from your unique design.
Are YOU being bullied . . . by YOU?
Do you ever wake up feeling ready to conquer the world, only to catch a glimpse of yourself in the mirror and hear that voice in your head whisper:
- “You’re not enough.”
- “You always mess this up.”
- “You should be further along by now.”
That voice? It’s not helpful. It’s not honest. And it’s definitely not holy.

That voice is your inner bully. And it’s time to punch that voice in the nose.
The truth is, you were created on purpose, with purpose, and for such a time as now. But the inner bully works overtime to keep you from remembering that.
It’s time to turn the volume down on the lies and turn up the truth.

Are You Being Bullied by YOU?
You don’t need another hater in your life—especially not one living rent-free in your head.
The inner bully is the voice of doubt, fear, shame, and insecurity. It’s sneaky, familiar, and often sounds a lot like you. Why? Because it is you—or at least a version of you formed by old wounds, failures, and expectations that were never yours to carry.
That voice will:
- Question your worth.
- Mock your progress.
- Rehearse your past mistakes like a greatest hits album.
And if you’re not careful, it will convince you to quit before you even start.
But not today.
Today, you’re going to:
- Reclaim your truth.
- Rewrite the narrative.
- Stand up for your purpose.
Let’s get to it.
5 Ways to Shut Down the Bully Voices

1. Write a Truth List
A truth list is a personalized reminder of your God-given identity. These are not fluffy affirmations. These are grounded-in-Scripture, rooted-in-reality declarations of who you really are.
Some examples:
- “I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” – Psalm 139:14
- “I am called to be peculiar.” – 1 Peter 2:9 (because being normal is over-rated and not nearly as much fun)
2. Build a Win Wall (or an Encouragement Folder)
The inner bully thrives on forgetting your victories.
Block it!
Keep a visible record of:
- Wins you’ve had (big or small)
- Kind words from others
- Goals you’ve reached
- Prayers you’ve seen answered
Use a #WhiteBoardofWorldDomination, a folder, or even a digital journal. When the voice says, “You never get anything right,” your Win Wall says, “Let’s review the evidence.”
3. Set a Stoplight Time: Pause. Breathe. Ask.
When the bully voices start up, evaluate the words:
- Is this true?
- Is this kind?
- Is this helping me grow?
If the answer is no, then the voice gets a time-out.
Not all internal critique is bad—some of it is meant to call us further in and further up. But if it’s only there to tear you down, then it doesn’t get a pulpit.
4. Create a Battle Verse Deck
Arm yourself with truth.
Write out a handful of go-to Scriptures that speak directly to your calling, identity, and courage.
- Philippians 4:13 – “I can do all things through Christ.”
- Jeremiah 29:11 – “God has a plan for me.”
Keep them on index cards. Put them on a keyring. Carry them in your purse, your car, or your planner. When the battle gets loud, you’ll be ready.
5. Declare It Out Loud
Sometimes the only way to silence the bully voice is to outshout it.
Speak your truth out loud. Even if you feel silly. Even if it’s through tears. Even if you’re not sure you believe it yet.
There’s power in your words. And there’s even more power when you say:
“I am created on purpose. I am capable. I am called. I AM the hopesmith.”
The enemy wants you quiet. Your purpose needs your voice. So use it.
Real Talk From the Podcast
From the March 31 episode of Growing Hope, Kathryn shares:
“The bully voices are MEAN and vicious. And they are always on point because they know exactly where to punch—because they are us.”
But you also have something stronger: the power to choose what you believe. And that changes everything.
She goes on to say:
“God gave us the Word to grow in Him. Put it to work to help you go in that strength and power.”
From the YouTube Short to Stop the Bully Voices
“You don’t need all the answers. You just need one thing: a willingness to move forward—faith-first, hope-fueled.”
So let’s move forward.
One truth. One declaration. One small act of courage at a time.
Because even your smallest steps in truth will shut down the loudest lies of fear.
Let’s Punch the Bully Voices in the Nose
Here’s some bully voice punching options – choose one:
- Write 3 truths about yourself.
- Stick a sticky note on your mirror.
- Text a friend and swap wins.
- Build a Scripture deck and carry it with you.
- Speak a truth out loud today.
You’re not being dramatic. You’re being deliberate. You’re choosing truth over noise.
Your inner bully may know your weak spots. But your truth? It knows your strength.
You’ve got this. You’re not alone. And you’re definitely not stuck.
