Weekly Devotional April 30, 2017 – Know Your Place
A man that wanders from his place (his clear spot) is like a bird that wanders from its nest.” – Proverbs 27:8
I need to be where I’m supposed to be. I get in trouble, or trouble finds me, when I step outside of the place that I’m supposed to be.
David saw a woman bathing at her house. All the other men were off at war – the very place that the king was expected to be – but David was not where he was supposed to be. He saw something he shouldn’t have and he did something to make the situation even worse all because he wasn’t where he was supposed to be.
Samson hung out with a woman he wasn’t supposed to be with. He chose to do what he wanted to do instead of doing and being what he was supposed to be. The woman betrayed him and he was blinded, bound, and enslaved. Samson ended up where he did all because he wasn’t where he was supposed to be in the first place.
Jonah was supposed to be a prophet for God. He was told to go and do something that he had no interest in going and doing – even if it was God that told him. He ran the other way. His disobedience endangered the lives of a whole ship full of men and Jonah ended up in the belly of a fish for three days (a fish which took him to the very place he was running from before it spit him out). Jonah smelled like fish guts all because he wasn’t where he was supposed to be.
Stepping out of my unique design and purpose may not land me in the belly of a fish, but it will leave me wanting.
