Quote of the Day – About as Happy – May 16 2017
Quote of the day for Tuesday, May 16, 2017
Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.” – Abraham Lincoln
I woke up startled. It could have been the coyotes that love running along the creek bank. It could have been a limb falling from an overhanging tree. It could have been the realization that the sun was up and I had once again ignored my alarm and was starting the day late.
Whatever caused the rush of adrenaline, I felt off when I started the day.
The next half of my day left me struggling to get a handle on what needed to be done. The more I pushed, the heard the world seemed to push back. By the end of the day I was exhausted and no closer to where I had wanted to be.
I woke the next morning with a similar start to the day before. This time I closed my eyes and took a few deep breaths. I repeated in my mind the mantra, “today is a glorious day.” I continued until I felt a sense of calm and peace pour over me.
Only then did I get up and start my day. I accomplished more. I had a better attitude about what I was doing. I enjoy the journey to get it done.
If I make my mind up to be happy and to be positive then I will find a way to be happy and to be positive.
It may feel more complicated and the world may try to convince you it is more complicated, but in truth a life of happiness is really just a choice away.
