The Wrong Focus Sinks the Boat

The boat is sinking, so you try to bail it out.
The more you bail, the more it sinks.
You keep bailing as the boat goes down.

It doesn’t make sense. If the boat is sinking, you need to know WHY so you can fix the why. Bailing first is like trying to get to town by putting the cart before the horse. It won’t work and you won’t get to where you want to be.

Before you can begin bailing, you need to find and fix the leak.

22 – Budget Your Cents

Find your way to manage your space.

You may not have all the space, or the perfect space, but you have your space and you can find ways to make the space work for you.



• Test your finances – what are you spending, where are you spending, and why are you spending.

• Evaluate the results – how do you feel about what you’ve discovered.

• Adjust your expectations – either you have to expect less from your finances or you have to find more finances. Define your goals for your finances.

• Set a new budget – make a new plan based on your expectations.

• Review and adjust – sit down at the end of the day, the end of the week, and the end of the month to see how the plan is working and where it’s not.

You need a budget because it gives you control and what you don’t control controls you.
